The official Twitter for The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie confirmed today that its cumulative box office gross in Japan has finally surpassed a milestone of the one billion yen (7.87 million USD) mark by selling 555,555 tickets. The film has now become the fourth top-grossing Japanese anime film of 2022, behind Detective Conan The Bride of Halloween (8.6 billion yen), Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021 (2.64 billion yen), and Crayon Shin-chan: Mononoke Ninja Chimpuden (1.88 billion yen).
The 136-minute sequel film to the two-season TV anime adaptation of Negi Haruba’s romantic comedy manga was released in 108 theaters across Japan on May 20, then, despite its small number of theaters, it earned an impressive 267 million yen (2.09 million USD) on 200,000 admissions, making its second place debut. The film even ranked No.1 on Filmarks’ first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.15/5.0 based on 520 reviews. In its latest third weekend of June 4-5, it still ranked fourth in the weekend box office.
