The official website for the forthcoming anime feature film Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island announced today that Char Aznable, the most prominent villain in the original Gundam anime franchise, and his MS-06R-1A Zaku II Char Custom High Mobility Type will make an appearance in the story.
The film is based on the first Mobile Suit Gundam TV anime’s 15th episode of the same name, which was aired in Japan on July 14, 1979, and Char didn’t appear in the original episode. So his appearance is a big surprise to fans. Also, Shuichi Ikeda, the original VA of Char, is confirmed to reprise his iconic role once again.
Message from director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko:
By introducing the long-loved character Char Aznable, we can please not only fans but also many others. I also thought that having Shuichi Ikeda-san participate in this project would further enhance the appeal of the work, so I have added a new element to this ‘Cucuruz Doan’s Island.’ Please look forward to this film with this new charm.
A new illustration of Char and his Zaku drawn by the film’s character designer/chief animation director Atsushi Tamura is also revealed.
