An anime adaptation has officially been revealed for Subaruichi’s The Legendary Hero is Dead! manga. The TV anime series is set to debut sometime in 2023, with LIDENFILMS producing, and a teaser promo and visual arrived along with the news.
Rion Kujo (Shin Ikki Tousen) is directing the anime, which stars Wataru Kato (Kokufu in ID: INVADED) and Shunichi Toki (Kazutora Hanemiya in Tokyo Revengers) as the two forms of protagonist Touka Scott, with Shunichi Toki voicing Sion, the true hero who died at the hands of Touka. As you’ll discover in the synopsis, there’s some body-swapping going on here.

Subaruichi first launched the series in the pages of Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday magazine back in December 2014. Southeast Asia’s Shogakukan Asia publishes the manga and describes the story like so:
Touka is just your average (slightly perverted) farmer in the village of Cheza. While he daydreams about being a hero and getting the girl, the real hero, Sion, is out battling demons that threaten to invade the world! But one day, Touka accidentally kills the hero…?! With the Legendary Hero dead, who’s going to save the world now?! Touka quickly buries Sion’s body to hide the evidence, but wakes up the next day to discover he is no longer in his own body…!!
