The live-action film adaptation of the Osomatsu-san / Mr. Osomatsu anime series stayed on the same second place in its second weekend of release behind SING 2, which had dominated the Japanese weekend box office for three weeks in a row since its debut.

 

The film starring the nine members of Johnny & Associates’ male idol group Snow Man earned 213 million yen (1.74 million USD) on 140,000 admissions in its second weekend, which was 31.3 percent down from its opening weekend gross. But the film’s cumulative box office has already surpassed one billion yen (8.16 million USD), making it the third Japanese live-action film of 2022 to reach the one billion yen mark.

 

In addition, the film’s theme song “Brother Beat” sung by Snow Man sold 780,000 copies in its first week and ranked No.1 on Oricon’s latest weekly single ranking. It has become their sixth No.1 song on the chart (All of their previous five singles became No.1).

 

 

Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021, the 41st feature film in the Doraemon anime franchise, earned 149 million yen (1.21 million USD) on 120,000 admissions, ranking third again in its fifth weekend. Its cumulative box office gross has reached 2.1 billion yen (17.12 million USD) to become the top-grossing Japanese anime film of 2022 so far.

 

 

JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 had stayed in the Japanese weekend box office for 15 consecutive weeks, ranking seventh, one position down again from the previous weekend. Its total domestic gross has reached 13.32 billion yen (108.67 million USD) on 9.5 million admissions. It is expected to surpasses the Japanese domestic gross of Frozen 2 (13.37 billion yen) soon to become the 18th top-grossing film of all-time in Japan.

 

ODDTAXI in The Woods, a compilation film including an after story of the TV anime ODDTAXI co-produced by P.I.C.S and OLM, was released in 34 theaters in Japan on April 1 and earned 15 million yen (122,352 USD) on its first day, then 52 million yen (424,153 USD) in its first three days with a per-theater average of about 1.13 million yen (9,217 USD). It made its 10th place debut in the weekend box office and ranked 10th in Filmarks’ first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.14/5.00 based on 974 reviews.
