One week after its theatrical release in Japan, Toei Movie’s official YouTube channel started streaming the first 11 minutes of the anime film adaptation of Kana Ozawa’s Blue Thermal manga. It tells a coming-of-age story set in the aviation club in Aonagi University, which competes for speed in a glider, an aircraft that flies by capturing rising air currents (thermals) without an engine.

This opening footage shows from the first encounter between the protagonist Tamaki Tsuru (CV: Mayu Hotta) and Jun Kuramochi (Nobunaga Shimazaki), the captain of the aviation club, and Daisuke Sorachi (Junya Enoki), to how she decides to join the club.

The 103-minute film directed by Masaki Tachibana (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Princess Principal) was released in 139 theaters across Japan on March 4 and ranked fifth in Filmarks’ first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.64/5.0 based on 161 reviews. It didn’t appear in the overall weekend box office ranking top 10 in its opening weekend, and no word on how much it film has made so far.
